DisguiseA Poem by H.M. EccherOriginal date: 4-30-09
So many people in their own little worlds
The boys' slouching pants, the girls' bouncing curls Going around thinking they are the stars They all pretend they know who they are But in the wind that shouldn't have blown Each hears a name that isn't his own And suddenly all of them open their eyes, Look past the face and beyond the disguise All their eyes widen and all of them smile They see the world for a little while But the wind calms and they all look down Like nothing has happened and no one's around So again the wind comes and whispers the name Everyone's happy and no one's the same Together creating a giant embrace Each feels tears as they run down his face For months they are wrapped in their own little lives As if they are bees in their own little hives No one remembers and no one can tell That if they wanted, they could break the spell But in the wind that shouldn't have blown Each hears a name that isn't his own And suddenly all of them open their eyes, Look past the face and beyond the disguise Sad little lives, but when happiness blooms Everyone smiles and it lights up the room No one here knows and no one can tell That if he wanted, he could break the spell Go blow the wind that shouldn't be blown Reach into a life that isn't your own Force everyone to open their eyes To look past the face, to see past the disguise © 2013 H.M.
