Looking Glass

Looking Glass

A Poem by Leanne Conway

Ten and a half years ago
When I was just this little girl
My daddy was taken away from me
Standing here today you wouldn't believe
All the things I have been through
You'd think it was just a dream
Even if I tried to explain it to you
You wouldn't understand any of it
Not because you haven't been in my shoes
Or have felt the same way that I have
It's been this all seems so damn unreal
And a little child shouldn't go through that
I'm now twenty years old
Staring in the mirror asking myself
Would daddy recognize me if he saw me
Or would he look at me all confused
Does he still look the same as when he died
Or has been aging all the same living life
As if he never died with a daughter same as me
Just living a different life
All the pictures I take are to hide my pain
In a picture you can fake the smile
You can alter the surrounding you're in
And you can determine the emotion in it
But inside your heart you know that you're broken
Unsure of what you're doing anymore
Walking about this place like a corpse
Just waiting for the day he calls home
Too the other side of that looking glass
Where the world seems so much brighter
And all the pain you've ever felt disappear
And everyone you've ever loved is right there
And you have this life you always wanted
All the things your heart desires is right there
Just on the other side of that looking glass
Where all your wishes and dreams come true
No more tear stained pillows
No more nightmares dancing in your head
No more sleepless nights and long days
Walking down the street in a neighborhood
That you're not use to anymore
Everything around you seems so colorless
It's growing so dark and grey
Wilting away to absolutely nothing but dust
You don't understand what is going on
And you're so loosing your hope
And you feel like you can't break
You're falling to your knees in the middle of the street
Screaming out for ears that can't hear you
No one is looking your way
Just ignoring you and walking away from you
Just on the other side of that looking glass
Where all your wishes and dreams come true
No more pain to keep you awake
No more depression keeping you from smiling
No more blank stares into the space
Just go on and take a step through the looking glass
