Free in time

Free in time

A Poem by Vertigo

You would think time would tell...

What of the masks? you ask
We are shells
Welded in memory
Of the wars
And blood shed of our forgoing relations
We fight the ongoing battles
But who would know it?
To be beyond quiet
Beyond knowing that we hold
More than the passing glance
More than a hidden hope
More than every hardening countenance

I am a shell that will one day hold
A beating heart
That has yet to be heard
I am a hidden word
A motion of memory
A dream perhaps
Of blue skies
And a wandering mind
Free in time...

Well Vertigo, I enjoyed this piece. I try not to judge someone's work by reading only one poem. The idea of masks and facades is not a new one, and has been covered by almost everyone at one time or another, but You have put your fingerprint on this one. The middle stanza's are the strongest part of this poem (in my estimation). I especially liked this:

We are shells
Welded in memory
Of the wars
And blood shed of our forgoing relations
We fight the ongoing battles
But who would know it?
To be beyond quiet
Beyond knowing that we hold
More than the passing glance
More than a hidden hope
More than every hardening countenance

Great job. Hope to read more soon---

Later on,

Mark
