Coffee

Coffee

That wonderful morning drink,

I will not live without.

Bitter, yet smooth . . .

A palette’s contradiction.

This myriad for the senses.

Comforting smell,

A ruse of its flavor.

Black, brown or tawny color,

Depending on the creamer.

Sweetly smooth or strongly harsh,

Additives change the flavor.

Silent, percolates, drips, or steams.

Prepared according to mood.

Watery sludge.

A cowboy’s jolt,

A peasant’s hope,

Or a rich man’s dose.

Coffee awakens all dreamers.

I live in a household of coffee addicts. None of them could give it up. It gets them going each day, gives them life and energy when they drag themselves out of bed in the morning. Your poem is nicely composed. You nearly tempted me. Tea is my wake up drink, coffee is not for me. I love it, but it really does not like me. Enjoyed my visit.

Amazing poem
Reading the poem triggers my sense to taste coffee (even though I don't drink coffee living among coffee addicts)

I love poems about the simple things in life. You have written a lovely tribute to one of my favorite things. It got me thinking about all the places I have drunk coffee: watching the sunrise from the Pike Place Market in Seattle, sitting at a patio table in Venice, on planes, in a hospital. I am a typical Seattleite, very addicted to coffee.

Isnt it strange that even reading about it alerys the senses, making you reach for the on switch for another dose of perk me up? 😀
Sadly im on decaff these days for the most part and can only enjoy the rarest of glimpses of the caffeinated delisciousness it brings to our lives, but even in moderation brings its own enjoyment, especially in the two dimensional world that is decaff! 😀

You've said it all - you surely have a first class degree in the glory of coffee!
I was an almost life-long coffee drinker until I discovered hot chocolate in the Winter and red wine when I fancied it, at any time ! Between times, water and water and.. swimming!!

Finely laid words, fun and interesting, Lisa; many thank yous for sharing. ;)
