It's Scary

A poem based on a true story

'Now go to sleep,

and close your eyes.'

my daughter dear

quickly replies

It's Scary!

'What is?' I ask.

She pats her bed

I look, "It's safe!'

she shakes her head

It's Scary!

'Where?' I ask her

She's pointing at some frames

'That's just pictures.'

then she exclaims,

It's Scary!

At the closet

now she scowls

I start to look 

then hear the growls

It's Scary!

Some shadows move

Quick as a flash

I scoop her up

and out we dash

It's Scary!

Growling stops

and heartbeats slow

but should I peek?

I do not know.

It's Scary!

I burst back in

to find the beast

and was surprised 

to say the least

It's Scary?

A stuffed lion

Lay upon the floor

Man made baby

by nothing more.

For what it's worth syllable counting to give a more even meter may improve this a wee bit. Enjoyed the read though

I'll go through and see how I can tweak the meter. I just need to give myself some space so I can look on it fresh. I always meant to come back to this piece anyway because a few of the stanzas are really wonky, especially the one about picture frames.
