Boom

Boom

A Poem by LawrenceRaybon
"

A Pantoum Poem for a Contest

"

And there is a boom

And the matter swirls

A sound that means doom

Sending out light whirls

And the matter swirls

Making a sun

Sending out light whirls

But not quite done

Making a sun

And making the Earth

But not quite done

It’s time to give birth

And making the Earth

All covered in seas

It’s time to give birth

Which is done with ease

All covered in seas

Things start to swim

Which is done with ease

And at a whim

Things start to swim

Then Things start to walk

And at a whim

The Things start to talk

Then Things start to walk

And they figure out tools

The Things start to talk

And they’re sounding like fools

And they figure out tools

To cut, kill and maim

And they’re sounding like fools

As they assign blame

To cut, kill and maim,

They call it a war

As they assign blame

They do it some more

They call it a war

A sound that means doom

They do it some more

And there is a boom…

I feel dizzy. Nice progression though, if the room would only stop spinning.

Hello Lawrence

First, I have to say I love the hat.

A true story about the creation and eventual destruction of man. Not that you need me to tell you. A fantastic form with a strong meaning and thought. I have always said man seems to be working backwards with evolution. We found a way to walk and talk, but instead of creation and growth we seem to walk toward power and destruction. Great read and write.

This poem more or less details the advance of human civilization, and how a lack of control over its mood swings makes it unable to save itself from its innovative creations. The monster from within becomes the monster from without. It inspired me to write this tiny gift poem for you which you may keep as your own: First there’s fire, then the boom as our cities fall to doom:

Nuke Mania

An impending doom
where a star’s fire swirls
creating a boom
as dense matter whirls.
