Point Of LIfe

Point Of LIfe

A Poem by LawrenceA
"

A poem I wrote for my brother as we were growing up in life. It describes how we felt about the situations we were in.

"
At times we must step away,
A short trip to the store,
A walk down an old road,
Even if we just bring up an old memory,
One we were keeping for a rainy day.....

So this is where we are,
That is where we came from,
There is where we are headed,
But it's not what we want......

A job, bills, responsibility, expected standards,
This society expects us to fall in line,
"Drive to the store instead of roughing it on foot or skating,"
"Go here at this time,"
"Do this type of work cause it's in demand,"
"Be at this meeting with so and so,"
"Oh you can't do that anymore, you're an adult now".....

Look at what we had,
Friendship was in Bloom,
Adventure was around every corner,
Our bikes, boards, and skates were pushed to the limit,
Day and Night,
The sanctity of Brotherhood was treasured..........

Now look at us,
Friendships are being dropped,
Adventure is a thing for children only,
We've had to sell our rides for cars and trucks,
Brothers are moving to another city,
But their hearts ache as though they are being moved across the world,
Our hair cut for job interviews,
We have 9-to-5's,
The generation that caused the great fuss is being transformed,
Into the grey blob of society,
Our freedoms has been cover with Politically Correct BullShit.......

Look at what we want,
To see the day when friends don't say Goodbye but Later instead,
For the day when we wake up to smell that tingle in the air,
Like the sky before a storm,
When Adventure courses through our blood,
We ride out and make our bikes show their mantle,
Push our bearings as fast as they can go,
And make our inlines spark with every grind,
Where we do odd jobs to make some pocket cash every other weekend,
Where Brothers spend the day together,
Fighting the way they do,
Loving each other the way they aught to,
Holding one another up when they fall,
And telling each other their darkest secrets,
Cause the bond of Brotherhood never falters........

What this life ask of us is out of our doing,
To destroy our very existence is asked,
Our hearts are dead set.
We are no longer children,
But we are not the adults you want,
We are the OutCast
And we'll never conform to your ways,
We will respect your opinion cause we aren't Bigots like you,
We just want to live our lives,
The way we see fit.
With Adventure at our finger tips,
Love in our heart,
Good times with Friends,
And Brothers by our side.

Life take the simple joys from us. We must find time to spend with family. Fun and laughter is the key to a good life. You went to many directions with this poem. I like the complete poem. A powerful story in the poem. I did like the ending to the excellent poem.
