Climbing StaresA Poem by LaurieroseEvery misstep I take; Elevate me.Step by step We're climbing this social ladder Except the stares are shallow; With one look, you could crumble And plummet down to that first step It's the first stare that matters You are master of your reflection Thick skin is developed when You've weathered the reality of The initial step You're not alone, though Those stares are steep But not damaging Only you know your own depth Though naked, never transparent; They can't see through you They can't see the hand that's reached inside already And pulled out the tools needed To coat such nakedness You don't dodge or skip You just take it slow Step by step Escorted by kind rail However, you're stronger; Push on. Let go. © 2018 LaurieroseFeatured Review
