The Cards

The Cards

A Poem by Lauriegirl

The cards were plasticized
coated for longevity
with a polymer that had a half life
of almost four thousand years
the ones dealt by you
to me
bore only the remnants of your fingerprints
not quite wiped clean
although that too would come
Shuffled
mixed up in an unorderly pack
Queens and Kings
Jacks and Tens
no direction
till you dealt the Ace
and I trumped it....
how do you feel now?

Love the first line...plastic meaning changeable... foreshadowing the twist at the end

we always have that one card up our sleeve to deal to that one who constantly breaks our heart...

one day he will draw the losing hand, the losing heart.

Sometimes life is a game. Who deals?
But love... as the saying goes we can't be lucky both ways.
However as the poem goes... you do it every time. Not luck, know how.
It's a delight to read, whatever metaphor you carve into paper.

nice work Laurie I bet he never plays cards with you again, love the way this flows and you use the cards to frame a love affair gone wrong, how about a quick hand of poker you deal :)
