Vampire

Vampire

A Poem by Lauren Slavin
"

A sonnet about a vampire; and not the sparkly sort either.

"

With the brilliance of sun comes a gloomy haze,

Which threatens to torment and darken my days,

Though I await the thrill of the moon's soft glow,

But the pacing of time is increasingly slow.

Sunlight brings warmth and a glowing smile

But night holds mystery if you wait a while

In day birds soar recognisably free

I prefer darkness to release the real me

In daytime I hide from the prowling eyes

Who attempt to penetrate through my disguise

Mind your own business and be on your way

For you’re lucky I'm no creature of day

Imprisoned and deprived of normal life

You are my prey and my teeth are the knife
