Short story for AS Creative Writing with the prompt, "I woke up this morning and walked down the stairs"

I woke up this morning and walked down the stairs. The blood from the night before splattered against the walls. “I really ought to tidy that up,” I thought absent mindedly, my fingers tracing the patterns. “But it’s so pretty.” I tilted my head to the side admiring the view before a low groan distracted me.

“Oh, so you’re still alive. I'm surprised that really was quite a battle, you must have had a rough night.” I crouched down next to him, ruffling his hair, eliciting another groan from the prone body. “Oh okay, I’ll put you out your misery. I really am too kind” I smile, grabbing the hammer. “Sweet dreams.”
