SeptemberA Poem by Laura
And as I watched the sun disappear beyond the horizon, I smelt the chill of autumn in the air and remembered my love for you.
There were brisk reminders of our time shared as I watched the leaves fall from glorious trees and dance their way to the blanket of earth beneath them. Consumed in their love affair mid-flight, oblivious to all that surrounds them. The wind is like a melody you once hummed to me, caressing my ear as the warmth of your voice once did. Serenading my soul, an aria of amour and all things passionate.
You lit a fire in me. But soon the rains came to purge the earth of sin, wash away all that was, leaving memories of the past floating in puddles and streams. Reflections of a time lost. And of a love drowned in downpour. The scent of what was lingers in the air, mixing with scents floral and woody, creating a perfume of heartbreak worn heavily on my skin. I am fragile, you see, anchored down by the past, trapped prisoner caught in the branches of bushes and the roots of trees. I change with the seasons adapting to the rise of nature in her glorious anger or embracing her serenity of spring. I bloom and fade like an undiscovered breed of flower, waiting for the cycle of life to begin again. And mother nature waits with me, her skies watch over me like a marble glaze that can never be broken. Her earth supports me and catches my many falls. And her sun warms me and reminds me what it is like to feel. And what it is like to burn. When I cry she cries with me, her glorious thunderstorms a reflection of the anarchy within my heart, lightening…a sudden brutal blade of imagery and force. And her thunder is an echo of all the things broken within me. Yes. When she cries it is like I am born anew. Born to watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon, smell the chill of autumn in the air….and remember my love for you..... © 2015 Laura |
