My veins are blue still

My veins are blue still

A Poem by lMarling

are you sure the ships have sailed?
it's not in your best interest to draw
cylindrical lines, I see opportunity
where the waves haven't solemnly
sworn to crash with the shore

the shore isn't always the answer
swim for a while
get accustomed to the clear
pristine Michigan waters
so what if the ships sailed?

Remember how we contemplated
to hold the president hostage?
remember how we spent the night
at the grocery store?

remember how once you dressed up
as a hammer for Halloween
and you nailed me?
even though I was scotch tape

please dear, they will never just be memories
don't you remember how we
used to make up memories?
how we used to lie to ourselves?

I am sorry I lied about my middle name
I am sorry I never said thank you for the plastic flower
It was the best I ever got.
I learned to swim so we won't be left behind.

I sensed a lot of emotion in this one but was not too sure about the flow. It felt a bit discontinuous but there were some great metaphors. You did a good job of showing the dreams one has in a relationship, and comparing it to the realities of actually being in a relationship.

"Remember how we contemplated
to hold the president hostage?
remember how we spent the night
at the grocery store?"

There was definitely a lot of depth to this write, but it didn't flow as smooth as some of your others. That might be one area to focus on. I still enjoyed it as a read though a good write still.
