PandemicA Poem by Laura HarrisonWhat do you do when the world is going to s**t? Write a poem about it!
It's funny how quiet the outside is
when leaving your house is no longer safe, when the world that you've always known is no longer the same. it's like we're living in a dystopia: a post apocalyptic world bringing to life your every phobia. But all the books I've read could never have prepared me for this: this realisation that maybe one day everything I love about my life will no longer exist. It's funny how trapped isolation feels when it's no longer your choice, how you can't help but feel helpless like a singer without a voice. For me, there's no greater fear than not being in control nothing worse than following protocol only for it to end up not being enough at all. It's funny how some people can act as if nothing has even changed, as if we aren't having to put on hold the lives that we have made for just a few months so that our loved ones can be safe. Just like sweeping it all under the rug doesn't get rid of the mess, you can't pretend something isn't happening just because you think that you know best. It's funny to think that eventually we'll be able to leave our homes, to see and hold friends and family we've had to avoid for months. It's funny to think that for some people no lessons will be learnt and history will keep on repeating itself for as long as humans are on Earth. © 2020 Laura HarrisonReviews
