We're in this Together

We're in this Together

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I’m not quite sure how the world works

all I know for certain

is that sometimes life hurts

but every stomach fluttering kiss

every dance in the moon light

every wrong that feels so right

is worth it

my God, is it worth it

so get out of bed- no excuses

let go of the reasons why you’re hurting

make yourself that today is the day

the day that you stop wasting your life away

and I know it’s not easy, nothing ever is

but trust me when I say

that there’s more to life than this

don’t let your fears consume you

because what if I told you that I’m afraid too?

what if I told you that I’m the same?

that I have had whole years that were not okay

but I am going to start living my life

despite the familiar fear taking over on the inside

it’s been drilled into our brains that no-one lives forever

and it’s finally sinking in that I don’t ever want to die

so take my hand, let’s go on an adventure

because you know, you and I

we’re in this together.
