What IfA Poem by Laura Harrison
What if all those strangers in the street
Who tell you to 'smile' Are not being patronising What if they just can't stand Other people being sad What if they have also seen pain like yours Have also seen their fair share of wars Have got their own battle wounds What if these people are not strangers What if you look into their eyes And see yourself staring back at you See your life in their eyes See that everyone has problems And maybe they're not that different from yours. Because I don't think that we are that different from each other We are all human beings; We all experience the same things At one point in our life We all make mistakes, we do things that aren't right We all feel the same emotions and we all hurt But I think that most people tend to forget that And so we smother ourselves with loneliness We close ourselves off from the world We tell ourselves that this is what we deserve What if I told you that it doesn't have to be that way? What if these strangers could do with a friend Would you be the one to offer them your hand? Would you give yourself the chance To experience happiness again? The next time a stranger tells you to smile Do not ignore them or roll your eyes Simply ask them 'how do you feel?' © 2015 Laura HarrisonReviews
