Closed Mind, Open Heart

Closed Mind, Open Heart

A Poem by Laura Harrison

We rushed into our relationship

like a charging bull when it sees the colour red

but things did not become dangerous.

Normally, when couples rush into things

a few months down the line,

there are doors slamming,

angry voices and crying

packed bags and people leaving.

But that did not happen between us

We became awestruck by each other

like a new born baby seeing the world for the first time

and when I met you,

it was as if I was born again

you showed me a whole new world;

a world that I never believed was beautiful

until I saw it reflected in your eyes

you made me see things

that I was too scared to face on my own

you taught me that life shouldn’t be lived alone.

I think that’s why I fell in love with you before we even kissed

you made me believe that my future

could include you in it

and before I met you,

I always thought with my mind

but I rushed into our relationship

with my mind closed

and my heart open

my heart wide open for you.

I like the whole bull charging description in relation to instantly falling in love. Always listen to the heart, it knows more than the mind.

The emotion of love. Like a tornado of uncontrolled wants and need.
"I always thought with my mind
but I rushed into our relationship
with my mind closed
and my heart open
my heart wide open for you."
Always good to lead with your heart. A chance of failure, also a opportunity for joy and happiness. I enjoyed the complete poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

These things happen. Unfortunately they sting, well written and thanks for sharing.
