If You Leave

If You Leave

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I lose everyone I allow myself to get close to

So forgive me for chaining myself to you

For sticking to you like cling film

It’s just I think my world would stop spinning

If I lost you too

Because you are the reason

I make myself get out of bed in the morning

You are where my compass points when I lose my way

And no matter how upset I am

You always find a way to make me smile

How can I live without someone with you in my life?

I told you all of this once

When the melancholy came over me again

And it all became too much

I bared my heart and soul to you

And unexpectedly,

You held me held as if you had no desire to ever let go

And you promised me that you were not like the others

You swore to me that you would never leave

But if you ever do

Please give me something better to remember you by

Than something that brings tears to my eyes

And a wish to die.

All I can say is that getting attached to other people is a fool's errand. That's really all I have to say about this one. Carry on.

A lot of deep thoughts and question brought to life by this poem.
"Please give me something better to remember you by
Than something that brings tears to my eyes
And a wish to die."
Sometime we need to demand happiness before it is gone. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
