Clean Slate

Clean Slate

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Starting from today,

I’m having a clean slate;

no more feeling sorry for myself,

no more foolish mistakes

and I won’t be your victim anymore

I refuse to shed another tear

for something that happened years before

so watch me turn my back

and close the God damn door.

I’m going to start acting like my age

and making some better mistakes

I might even do something daring

once in a while

just as long as it makes me smile.

I’m going to do what I want

and say what’s on my mind

and I’m not going to worry

if it’s not what people like

I’m going to discover a life

where I’m not afraid to be myself

I’m going to finally crack my shell .

Starting from today,

I’m having a clean slate

and I’m screaming from the top of my lungs

“the best part of my life has just begun!”

That is the healthiest attitude you can take… we can't please everyone so we just need to do and say what is right for us and those who care will understand even when they don't approve.

A self affirming poem, and one that still has your good word choice and conversational tone.
