One Of These Days

One Of These Days

A Poem by Laura Harrison

One of these days, I will drink coffee because I enjoy it

not to escape from the nightmares that haunt me at night

I will take a shower to rid myself from dirt and grime

not from the memories that infest my mind.

One of these days, I’m going to change the channel on my radio

to one that plays upbeat, catchy music that I normally hate

and I’m going to do something daring and adventurous

and act like I’m not afraid.

One of these days, I’m going to cry tears of happiness

and mean it when I say “I’m okay”

I will get out of bed with a smile on my face

ready to welcome the day.

One of these days, I will come out from the shell

that I’ve been hiding in since the day you walked away,

and one of these days, I might write a happy poem

but I’m afraid that today is not that day.

Strong and powerful words my friend. You took the reader to sad thoughts and wants for better day. I like the tone and the will to be fearless. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I feel this poem at my core. A happy writer is a rare bird indeed and I wonder if the pain feeds the brilliance - if we're happy and too busy living life to write...are we at our best in the throes of torment or moody introspection? This poem has some powerful lines in it - hints at a larger story. - the nightmares, the mind moments we can't scrub away...a vivid poem.

Investing our self is always a risk...when we win it's heaven but e v e r y t h i n g else is hell.

The very last line struck me as too calm, considered, and justifying... the end of this deserves to be ANGRY and slapping and perhaps tearful...

A little different from your usual, but with your usual well appointed words and great timing.

Hmmm, this poem is interesting. It sort of has a cliche, unhappy-teenager feel to it, but it is also very clear and concise in expressing the emotions of the writer. The ending wraps it up nicely. Thanks for sharing:)
