Back to the First TimeA Poem by Laura HarrisonWe’re lying on your couch, our arms wrapped around each other, our lips communicating without words the way that only lovers do and it takes me back to the first time you leaned in close to kiss me and the butterflies danced in my stomach because this was the moment I had been waiting for for weeks. I smile because I know that first time wasn’t the last time. Our bodies are entwined together, creating a magical experience that only the world’s greatest poets could describe and it takes me back to the first time we made love at your parent’s house and I could tell that you were nervous, afraid that you wouldn’t get it right. I smile because I know that first time wasn’t the last time. Angry words are being exchanged between us, fired across the room like missiles during war and it takes me back to the first time we argued way past midnight and I started crying and slammed the bathroom door. But I smile because I know that this may not be the last time but we won’t be saying goodbye. © 2014 Laura HarrisonReviews
