Same Subject, Different Poem

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Memories and thoughts of you

have been sprawled across the pages of my notebook so many times

that it’s a wonder I have any material left

but someone once told me

that I should never bottle up my thoughts and feelings

and you have been at the forefront of my mind

ever since the day you walked out of my life

so I decided to let the ink bleed dry

rather than myself

and if anybody asks,

I don’t even think about you any more

but me and my poetry know that that’s a lie

because I can’t spend my entire life with someone

I thought was my hero

and forget them as quickly as they forgot me

and I have been dealing with words and metaphors

for the past three years now

I know how to disguise my emotions by what I say

but my poetry is like my mind,

my poetry says what I’m really feeling

when my mouth can’t.

Your heartfelt love poetry is amazing, as always, and I haven't a comma or a correction in mind.
