In My Dreams

In My Dreams

A Poem by Laura Harrison
"

not too sure about this one. opinions please.

"

I always have dreams about things I cannot have;

like a pair of red high-heels

that my mother refused to buy for me when I was ten

in my dreams, they are there

taunting me with their perfection.

When you left me,

I dreamt about you every night for three months

I relived all the special moments that we shared

and I got to experience the seaside holiday

that we never got to have.

In my dreams, you were there

with your mischievous eyes and crooked grin

taunting me like those red heels.

I was forced to remember the day we first met:

the first time you said “I love you”

and making love on my mother’s couch

like our bodies were moulded for each other.

All these things that became part of our routine

are now just bittersweet memories for me.

I always have dreams about things I cannot have-

you promised me that I would always have you.

I feel this in my bones. I have been there so often! Well captured in a very poignant verse.
