All The Broken Pieces Of Me

All The Broken Pieces Of Me

A Poem by Laura Harrison

The first time we met

your eyes gazed intensely into mine

with a looked that closely resembled love

and ever since that moment

all I have thought about

is what it would feel like

if your lips were pressed against mine.

But I live inside a mind

that thrives off pain;

that demands me to never be happy again

and as I look down at my arms

covered in harsh red marks

I realise that I don’t want to drag you this mess.

So I push you away

time after time

I push these thoughts of you

to the back of my mind

but everywhere I go

you always seem to be there

and one night,

at my sister’s house

I find myself

spilling out my secrets to you

and as this tidal wave of emotion

pours out of me

I realize that my heart is naked;

waiting for you to judge me.

I look at you hesitantly

and in the next moment

your arms are around me

and you are kissing my mouth

and I don’t think you know it

but you are starting to put back together

all the broken pieces of me.
