Mind Set

Mind Set

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I’ve got my mind set on you.

I was walking to the library the other day

and as my mind drifted to your touch,

to the taste of your lips-

I was rudely awoken from my reverie

by a car beeping his horn.

Turns out I was walking in the middle of a busy road

at snail’s pace

and I know they that love makes you do crazy things

but who spends a whole three minutes

looking in the glasses cupboard for milk?

Unfortunately, the answer would be me.

I have turned into the one thing

that I never wanted to be-

a love-struck teenager

and it is all your fault.

I try my best to shake off these feelings

to tell myself that this is just a phase.

Every day is a battle;

between the cynical side of me

and the side that is falling madly in love with you.

I think you’ll be pleased to know

that the latter always wins.
