Rough DraftA Poem by Laura HarrisonThere are days when I find myself surrounded by crumpled pieces of paper that are inked with the thoughts and feelings of my weary and troubled mind. Crumpled, because the words that appear on them aren’t quite right. But my favourite thing about writing poetry is that if I don’t like the rough draft I can change it; I can give the poem a whole new meaning or I can start it all over again. Life isn’t that kind; We are born into a world that demands perfection- we have to teach ourselves how to hope that we will get everything right on the first try and if we don’t? We have to learn how to deal with the hands that fate have given us- and hope that somewhere along our perilous life we will be faced with a new beginning, a blank page, that will allow us to take that rough draft from the past and re-write it. © 2014 Laura HarrisonReviews
