Sex before LoveA Poem by Laura HarrisonWhen my fiancé and I got engaged; people said to me “don’t you think it’s too soon? You’re only eighteen” and my fiancé’s brother had sex with his girlfriend the first time that he met her but he thought that it was too soon when he told her that he loved her three months later. I have figured out that this is what our generation is now where sex comes before love, where saying “I love you” is more scary than losing your virginity. Everywhere I turn, I see teenage girls pushing prams or with swollen bellies- and I don’t think they realise that their stomachs are a lot less smaller than their responsibilities. When I was their age, all I had to worry about was handing in my homework on time and I didn’t have a clue where my life would take me. But now their lives are already mapped out for them; It will consist of making sure that their child is well
cared for. My mother always jokes that I am a sixty year old trapped in a nineteen year olds body because I am wiser than most people my age but I am in no hurry to grow up. When I was fifteen all I wanted was to find that guy from the fairy-tales and fall in love with him. Well, I found him and now, two years later we are still living happily ever after and those teenage girls that I see with swollen bellies? I never see a man with them. © 2014 Laura HarrisonReviews
