NoA Poem by Laura HarrisonYour first time was not gentle- you were 15 years old and he had you pushed up against the backseat of his car each time his body collided into yours made you wish that you could disappear into the upholstery. You felt like a fish trying to wriggle off a hook as you tried to get away from him and you cried “no, I do not want this!” But he did not listen. Now the word ‘no’ has been screamed out of your mouth so
many times that there’s hardly any room left for another word in your
vocabulary; “no”- you don’t want to be looked at like a piece of meat
every time you walk down the street “no-“ you don’t want that man you’ve known all of two
minutes to buy you a drink “no”- you don’t want to go back to his place. All that you want is to be treated with respect, to be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t expect sex
within the first week but puberty turned you into a beautiful goddess with a body like Angelina Jolie’s and 36D cup size breasts and you quickly learnt that this is what men like. So you stopped believing that love exists; you stopped waiting for that fairy tale that you dreamed of
when you were 6 years old and you accepted the fact that you will only ever be wanted
for your looks. But I am begging you to find that smidgen of faith left in
your heart and hold on to it as tightly as you can because one day you will
meet someone who will treat you like the original painting of The Mona
Lisa, like your body is a pair of butterfly wings. He will make you feel safe and loved like all those other
men never did and when he starts to take your clothes off and asks you “is
this okay?” You will want to say “yes.” © 2014 Laura HarrisonReviews
