You Broke Me

You Broke Me

A Story by Laura Harrison

The first day of high school

you came up to me and you said

“hey fatty”

I didn’t even know your name.

And so it began

day after day

of name-calling

of being pushed through the school hallways

and being laughed at by everybody

being helped by nobody

and I took it

with my head held down

feeling like I was in a cage at a freak show

everyone gathering around

to mock “The Worlds Fattest Girl”

and maybe it would be better

if I was in a cage

because then you wouldn’t be able to get to me.

I was just a game to you

and the aim was

“let’s see how long I can bully her before she breaks”

Well guess what?

You won.

I ended up as a mosaic

all the broken pieces of me

glued together as best I could

and I cut myself on them

every time you called me.

I was a mosaic

but you made sure

that I didn’t feel beautiful.

If this poem is based on a true story of tour life I am so sorry bout that, it is a shame, I cannot stand bullies. They are just insecure people who pick on others to make themselves feel better. Their loss for missing out on knowing a wonderful person.

Bullies have an obsession to tear others down in order to build themselves up. They use this artificial social contrast that they set up between themselves and their prey as camouflage against something within themselves that they are lacking. Mosaic’s are more beautiful than the glass that‘s fractured to produce them.
