Broken Things

Broken Things

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I have a friend

whose house is littered

with broken things

the lever on her toaster

always gets jammed

and the remote control

for the television

only works

if you point it

at a certain angle

and sometimes

she has to kick her washing machine

to get it to spin

but she never throws anything away

and when I asked her why

she told me that

“things are like people

they get broken sometimes

but that doesn’t mean

that you should get rid of them.”

Well, true but I wonder, did she ever consider getting them fixed?

Oh, I love this - a little like me lol I don't hoard things, as such, but when they break, I see them as an old friend and keep them until they completely stop working...partly because I am skint and can't afford new stuff LOL x

This is reminiscent of a hoarder, or at least a person who can't let go of things. An interesting piece.
