Broken Things

Broken Things

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I have a friend

whose house is littered

with broken things

the lever on her toaster

always gets jammed

and the remote control

for the television

only works

if you point it

at a certain angle

and sometimes

she has to kick her washing machine

to get it to spin

but she never throws anything away

and when I asked her why

she told me that

“things are like people

they get broken sometimes

but that doesn’t mean

that you should get rid of them.”

I like the logic of the above lines. You led the reader with good description to the very good ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
