I Believe In UsA Poem by Laura HarrisonWhen we first met I tried to ignore the fact that every time I saw you the butterflies in my stomach went crazy I was like a modern-day Judas betraying my feelings and I don’t believe in God but the first time we kissed your lips tasted like the Holy Wine that I had to drink every time my mother forced me to go to The Sunday Mass as a child and when I’m upset you listen to me and vow to make everything better like the words that spill out of my mouth are prayers addressed to you. I joked once that we are like Adam and Eve because people always talk about us as if we are one but we will never be tempted to eat from the forbidden tree we will never go our separate ways I don’t believe in God but when we make love I scream out His name like some invisible force has taken hold of my heart and made me believe in Him or at least until I orgasm then I’m back to believing in us. © 2014 Laura Harrison |
