God is Crying

God is Crying

A Poem by Laura Harrison

When I was a young girl

my mother told me

that when it rained

it meant God was crying

and when the sun came out

it meant God was happy.

And I said to my mother

“what would God

have to cry about

when he created

this beautiful world?”

But I am older now

and I hear

about people getting killed

bullied

and raped everyday

I hear about

all the people

who hate themselves

and how every day for them

is a struggle to survive.

I can hear

a million raindrops

crashing on the roof of my house

and I finally know now

why God is crying.

You know now. Yes, the blinders come off at some point, don't they?

This poem flows beautifully as a mesmerizing waterfall of salty poetic tears. That conscious sentient being is always crying big lensing tears of empathy deep inside each of our psyches. I hear those “rain drops” too, but most people don't hear their inner voice over the cacophony of worldly distractions.
