Just Add Me to The List of 'Depressed Poets'

Just Add Me to The List of 'Depressed Poets'

A Poem by Laura Harrison

When I was younger

and still had hold of my innocence

I could never understand why

poems were so poignant

and why every poet

was so sad

to me

life was still only filled

with rainbows and butterflies

everything to me

was just black and white

But now,

as I sit here at my writing desk

at 4:00am

with tears in my eyes

and a page inked with sorrow

and heart-breaking goodbyes

I can finally understand the sad poems

because there were plenty of times

when life became The Grim Reaper

begging me to die

and the only way to feel alive again

was to pick up a pen

and let my troubles leap from my mind

and onto the page.

so many writers and artists are tormented - wonder if it is because those who still see rainbows are out living while the rest of us are lamenting. A wonderful poem.

I can certainly relate to this and I know other's can as well! A very lovely write about how you have come to understand "depressed writers". Writing can always help those emotions escape. Marvelous work Miss Laura! :)

So your time is 4 am? Mine is 2 am. You are in good company. A lot of us do that ...

Nicely written. You'll shed the negativity soon enough.

You are still young and I believe like Dryden said. Writers should not seek attention. Should not be martyr. They need to be the tellers of history and the truth. They say all readers, artist and musicians are mad. Maybe it is true? I met the Grim Reaper once. He told me. No room in Purgatory Inn for another loco writer. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry. Made me think this morning.

I think we all write sad poetry at times because we live life and this is just part of it
