If You Fell In Love With Me

If You Fell In Love With Me

A Poem by Laura Harrison

If you fell in love with me

you would be witness to my self-loathing

to the constant times

where I look in the mirror

and just want to tear off my skin

and replace it with anyone else’s

you would be witness to my constant break-downs

and the nights of endless tears

and to the times where I feel so low

that only the sight of my own blood

will raise me up again.

But if you somehow managed to fall in love

with the damaged part of me

you could fall in love with my gentle smile

and warm embrace

and how I would look after you when you are sick

and listen to you when you are upset

you could fall in love

with the way my hand feels clasped in yours

and the way that I would kiss you all the time

you could fall in love with my loud pealing laugh

and the soft, sweet words that I would whisper in your ear

if you fell in love with both sides of me

then I would love you in return

irrevocably.

This is so sweet. None of us is perfect and we need to find that special person who is going to accept all of us - imperfections and all.

Loved this.
