I Want To Experience The Natural You

I Want To Experience The Natural You

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I want to kiss your mouth

when your teeth haven’t yet been brushed

and I want to run my fingers through your hair

before it’s been washed.

I want to see a smile on your lips

when they’re not painted in cherry red lip-stick

the kind that reaches your eyes

when they aren’t covered in black liquid

I want to hear laughter erupt from your voice

that doesn’t have sadness hidden behind it

I want to experience the natural you

Because I know that you will still be perfect.

And so, you must want life without the benefits of civilization’s euphemisms. You don’t want a steak sandwich; you want a real honest-ta-goodness caught-in-the-crosshairs stone-cold-dead possum sandwich, and you want to eat ‘em like a wild carnivorous tigress. You wanna growl in triumph at the end of your meal. Real is a thrill. Primal instinct rules, the "Call of the Wild".

A wise man once told me that love is when you don't reach for the toothbrush before making love in the morning - I am paraphrasing, but you get the idea-- yes, you know.

Beautiful. I think it's better seeing the natural side of a person, and you got that into the poem wonderfully!
