Our Future

I can imagine you and I

5 years from now

saying our vows

then moving our things into our own little house

in the countryside, preferably

with a dog and a soon-to-be-born baby

we will go to sleep that night

in the same bed at last

and every day after that

will be nothing less than perfect

and when we’re old and grey

you won’t be hearing me say

“it was good while it lasted”

because you will be sitting right beside me

looking at me mesmerizingly

like you did when we first met.

This free verse poem has good flow, and it expresses a dream that's common to most people. Ah, if only life was that predictable. Most people on this Earth would be satisfied with just a few days of perfect family life. I know a lot of people with children, and raising children isn't easy for them to do. They have no peace and quiet, and very little time for themselves. But for love, all would be lost. Parents are courageous.
