Don't Make Plans When You're Young

We met

when we were both 13

and were inseparable

from that very first kiss

all the adults simpered

and said “aah young love”

But we knew that we would last

well beyond our teenage years.

 

I remember the first time

that we made love

we lay in bed afterwards

and talked about us

we planned our wedding

and our children too

then you looked me in the eyes

and whispered “I love you.”

 

But all the adults were right

it was only young love

because I’m 19 now

and there is now ‘us.’

We planned our future together

but those plans turned to dust

because we never planned

the day that we would break up.

Its sad when such a strong, love that two people have shared for so long, doesn't work out and they break up.

"don't make plans when you're young" I agree. but I also believe that it's never a bad thing to make mistakes too while were young. These mistakes, like making plans during teenage years, makes us more human. all of us experiences it. I made plans like this before. Now, just like your poem says, it turned into dust. But looking back at the time I made those plans with the person, I never really regretted it. It's like a sentiment that only the two of you share. Great job on the poem! :)

The poem is true. But dreams are a powerful medicine. First love is the love we won't forget. Age make us different and sometime people must go different directions. I learn from being old. We do meet people again. No weakness in the excellent poetry.
