Familiar Strangers

Familiar Strangers

A Poem by Laura Harrison

There is a man I always pass on the street

who looks like someone I used to know

we were so close once upon a time

but now he’s just one of the things

that I force to the back of my mind.

I can’t help remembering

all those times we spent together

how we stayed up all night

talking about our fears and dreams

I wish that I could forget

all those time I spent in his arms

and how he said “I love you” all the time

because now

he is no longer mine.

There is a man I always pass on the street

who looks like someone I used to know

but it cannot possibly be him

because he never smiles or says hello.

I think anyone who has had a relationship fall apart can relate to this one...
It is so sad when someone you love(d) becomes a stranger...and though they may still hold a special place in your heart, the distance between you is so vast and unexplainable.
You have touched my heart..

I loved the message in this one, wow. I loved the repetition and the contrast. Lovely job.

This is a wonderful verse. It beautifully illustrates the difficulty of passing through that heartache and moving on. You are wise beyond your years and you will get through.

I can really relate ... Someone we love so much can trully become a complete stranger... and when you see him again after what felt like a lifetime, what you force away come rushing in... and you force it back again ... but it get easyer everytime you see him again ....

Bittersweet tale of past romance.....love it.:)
Particularly enjoyed the final stanza....something quite profound about the final line..it really "echoed" in my heart when I read it.
Thanks for sharing.:)
