Nobody's Normal

Nobody's Normal

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Someone told me the other day

that I wasn’t normal

because I don’t like getting drunk

but why am I labelled as a freak

when I am tempted by a blade

because alcohol can kill you anyway

and how is it so cool to take drugs

or to inhale smoke into your lungs?

It seems like everyone has that thing

that helps them to forget

nobody’s normal

and no-one wants to admit it.

what is normal but the fact that everybody thinks we should like everything they do or like
normal is what you feel the blade is not normal for me but for some I guess it helps alcohol and drugs
are not normal except in a social theme and the reasoning is usually motivated by something else we don`t need to alter who we are we are who were supposed to be

I can relate to this a lot. I love the message, and the way you've described it. Wonderful job!

Your poem get people to thinking. What is normal? Anyone who sets an absolute standard for normality, and then goes around exterminating everyone who doesn't meet his standard is surely the most abnormal person on Earth. Perhaps we're just asking the wrong question. The better question would be positive questions such as:

What is healthy?
What is happy?
What is joyful?
What is intelligent?
What is wise?
What is beautiful?
What is empathetic?
What is non-violent?
What is nurturing?
What is innovative?
What is creative?
What is helpful?
Normal people must be those who ask these positive questions, and seek answers to live by.
