Our Song

Our Song

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I wonder if you think of me when you listen to our song

or if you remember all those times you sang it to me

on all of those road trips that we took in your car-

your voice as sticky-sweet as honey

but evidently not sticky enough

to glue together the cracks in our relationship.

There are many times that I lie awake at night

with that song on repeat and tears forming in my eyes

they say that a picture says a thousand words

but I think that a song holds a thousand memories

and as much as it pains me to remember them

I have to press play

to remind me that my life was perfect once upon a time

even if things didn’t end happily ever after.

I wonder if you think of me when you listen to our song

or if you even still listen to it at all.

We all want the fairytale..and when it ends...don't you wish we could shut off those memories that keep replaying to remind us it's over...
Your poem is one I can definitely relate to.

I like the poem. Had the feel of a song. I do believe music can take us back to good and bad days. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.
