It's Okay to Love Yourself

It's Okay to Love Yourself

A Poem by Laura Harrison

There is nothing wrong

with standing in front of the mirror

and smiling at your appearance

or acknowledging the fact

that you love your eyes

It is perfectly fine

to announce that you write

or do well in sports

and that you will be going places

and you will be someone

greater than you could ever imagine

It is a good thing

to list in your head

all the things you love about yourself

and all of the things that you are good at

instead of pointing out your flaws

and mistakes

and it is okay to love yourself

especially when no-one loves you

because everyone needs at least one person

to tell them that they are wonderful

This is very inspirational and I believe there are many people who need to be told this because they beat themselves up over the flaws that they have. I like this.

I think your poem is very positive and should be shared with millions. It gives someone with a negative body-image or an eating disorder some hope and inspiration that it's okay to tell ourselves all the good details about us instead of listening to that negative voice telling ourselves all the bad things about us.

Yes. Negative self talk is soul killing. Positive thinking is essential to self image.

I love this, and it's message. You're very right! It's okay to be happy with who you are!

Love this poem. In fact, I think they should teach this stuff on the national curriculum, and then children would grow up knowledgeable, and also with good self esteem, not based on any kind of knowledge...thanks for sharing this honest, uplifting write...:)

Beautiful hun,I love this piece.
Tells people to pick out more positive things out about themselves to see the good.
Not to be so down on themselves, it is truly an inspiring piece.
I hate people who are TO full of themselves though, like they think there gods gift.
Although like you said, its different if every now and again you take the time to pick out the good things in yourself, and be proud of who you are.
There is nothing wring with that.
Well written hun.

I'll have to admit this is inspiring but the title made me wonder are there people saying it's not okay to love yourself? Always thought this was a given. I always tell my wife "ahhh, I'm so in love...." then I pause dramatically and "with myself". It always gets a roll or the eyes.

Laura,

I guess we all live within the world "we perceive". It is ...strange... how so many perceive it in their own, unique way and not in another's way. People seldom see or even recognize it AS love when WE aren't "in-love" with someone in-love with us. And yet, there are those unique few that DO see those "others", and understand what they feel and can accept and appreciate them for the person they are.

We don't choose whom we love... nor when we love them. But we DO live with it as best we can.

Take care.
