Nothing DiesA Poem by Laura HarrisonAt this time of year, nature is dead. The trees have parted with their leaves and the flowers no longer bloom; then along comes spring, restoring all beauty and life to the world. Even people who have long since been buried in the ground, stay alive in their loved ones hearts. So don’t hide yourself away in your room and act like you’re dying because I can still see a lot of life in you. Yes, you are hurting and it seems like the end of the world as you know it; you feel as though the depression is sucking the air out of your lungs. But I can still see that sparkle in your eyes; I can still feel your heart pumping when you lay your head on my chest. So next time you feel as though there is no life left inside of you, look outside at the withered trees and the wilting plants and remind yourself that nothing ever dies. Not really. © 2014 Laura Harrison |
