What defines
you? Think about it. Is it your background or your upbringing? Or your past and
the mistakes that you have made? Is it the face you see when you look in the
mirror? Or the hurtful names, violently thrown upon your tired ears?
I used to
believe that I was defined by my appearance- that my 182lbs waist and my limp
hair make me who I am as a person. But I only believed that because other
people made me; drilled it into me that I would never amount to anything unless
I changed the way that I look. I have a heart, and that hurt. A lot. But I also
have a mind and my mind eventually realized that I could have the face of a
porcelain doll and the body of a glamour model, yet I still wouldn’t be happy
because happiness does not reside in Maybelline make-up and GHD hair straighteners.
I am merely a young girl just starting out my journey in this harrowing world,
but I want to be known for something greater than the mould of my face and
body.
Your life is
in your hands; only you have the power to decide the reason why people remember
you. You decide what defines you. Make it something good. Turn the negativity
of the world into a blessing, and start today.
Believe me, you have an amazing personality THAT is why i like you so much.
You are so talented, and your poems including this one, say a lot about you to.
This is another inspiring piece, and it says that you are strong, and you realize that people, will pick on you even if it was possible to be perfect, and you don't worry about what they think anymore.
I love this piece, I love almost everything you write, and I love your personality :)

Good message. People can't defines us unless we let them. I tell people that I know I'm ugly but I always feel good looking. A sense of humor, a love for christ and serving others brings happiness to my life but I define myself by my trials, how I've handled them and grown.
I've learned through life that beauty is from the inside out when Christ defines us and from the outside in when the world defines us. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, Laura. I'm inspired! Almost every girl that I know (including me) can relate to this. You have no idea how much this has enlightened me and others as well. It takes a lot of courage to post in public about your personal reflections, and I admire you for that. You are a pretty lady. Inside and out.
love this! I use to compare myself to others and think that im not good enough but, I know I have a purpose in life just like everybody else does.....good job
