You May Have Walked Out Of My Life, But You Didn’t Walk Out Of My Mind

You May Have Walked Out Of My Life, But You Didn’t Walk Out Of My Mind

A Poem by Laura Harrison

Grains of sand slip through my fingertips;

just like you did all those years ago-

gradually, you disappeared from my life,

leaving me with bittersweet memories

and the taste of your final kiss on my lips.

Yet I still wait for you;

as if I have just lost you in the supermarket

and I will find you in the ‘Produce’ aisle selecting apples.

I’m holding on to the tiniest chance that you could ever return to me

and I don’t want to admit that that chance is turning into zero.

We will always be together inside my heart and mind;

I don’t think I ever will discover:

the art of letting go.
