New Year

New Year

A Poem by Laura Harrison

So tomorrow is a new year

A new chance to put the wrongs in our life right

And to make ourselves into a new person

But what if we actually were born again each New Year?

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes

What if our lives started anew?

And every mistake that we had made was erased

Every bad memory, vanished?

There are times when I wish that I could start all over

When life gets on top of me

And I am drowning in a sea of my mistakes

I just want a clean slate.

But then I realize

That I wouldn’t just forget about the bad things in my life

But also the good

So maybe I wouldn’t start my life again even if I could

In life, there is never a straight road

Nothing ever goes smoothly

And sometimes, we make mistakes

But we need to realize that this is okay

None of us are perfect but all of us are great

So instead of waiting for the New Year

Let’s make the most of the life that we have today

More of a ramble of thoughts than a poem, but oh well.

Perfect ending line:
"Let’s make the most of the life that we have today"

Pretty thoughtful ramble. Anyway, well written, with introspection and hope.

I agree with your logic. We need to tried to improve with each day. Don't wait for new years or special dates. Life should be simple. Learn from the mistakes and tried not to repeat them. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I guess what I get from it is it`s a new year we can`t change anything for last year
but reflect and try not to make the same mistakes but if we do we can always forgive our selves

I love this train of thoughts, this realization that, how much you look on the bad, there is still always the good to remember.
