I Dreamed Of A Land

I Dreamed Of A Land

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I dreamed of a land free of suffering

Where war and murder don’t exist

Where children can sleep safely at night

And nobody raises a fist

I dreamed of a land full of promises

That are never bent or broken

Where secrets are kept and cherished

Not one single secret spoken

I dreamed of a land of equality

Where every single person unites

Where everyone can proudly be who they are

And nobody different has to hide

I dreamed of a land filled with all things good

Like people with warm, kind hearts

Where no vicious words snake out of their lips

And nobody tears each other apart

I dreamed of a land that was perfect

But then I opened my eyes

To the land home to hell and demons

The place where evil resides

There's no perfect place, unless we learn to accept the truth and out of that imperfection, we develop better people from among ourselves...

Nice rhyme scheme.

If everything is good and happy then we wouldn't know it was good and happy. Does that make any sense? If we didn't have hurt and sadness we wouldn't cherish happiness and joy as much as we do.
This is however a good write. Well done!

I wonder if we would still have violent movies and vide games if we lived I a perfect world?

Man, we all dream of a land that is so pure and untouched. We all know reality isn't and won't be like this for probably a long time yet, we have to learn to balance out our peace of mind or else we can never be free. Our planet depends on us treating it right, but that can't happen once we start respecting ourselves and others along with it. We care too much about how other people view things around us and we get pissed if they don't agree with us. We can't and won't have all of the same views or beliefs and that's okay. Nothing wrong with looking at the situation differently, but I do believe we all have to come to an understanding after awhile and make a truce sometimes. The world cannot survive on only violence and suffering.

It's a beautiful dream to have. Living in this reality, I think most of us long for Utopia.

Amazing. It really is very insightful, and most days I see the worst of our world. This is a great piece of work.

I agree with you dear, if only, right.?

This trots along like a fairy tale, a soft romanticised poem but comes to a brutal brick wall in that final stanza. I guess reality for some is Hell, for others Heaven, but for most it is wedged somewhere in between. We should be thankful on such neutral ground.
