Dead Flower

Dead Flower

A Poem by Laura Harrison
"

A poem for my friend who committed suicide tonight.

"

Flowers are beautiful

But not as beautiful as you

In winter flowers shrivel up and die

I wish you hadn’t done that too

You couldn’t see your petals

You weren’t yet ready to bloom

Instead you stood on top of that building

And jumped straight to your doom

Flowers can grow back

They can get back to the start

I know that you are dead on Earth

But you will always be alive in my heart

I know that the structure is poor but I really needed to write about this.

I disagree with your assessment of your poem. I think it is exactly as it should be. Poetry does not have to follow rules, it just has to work as it is, and this one does.

Such a raw piece is beautiful in it's genuine sadness but crafting will make this enigmatic. I am so, so sorry for your sadness?
