Bath Water

Bath Water

A Poem by Laura Harrison

I lay here in this bath-tub

And stare at the water

Stained with dirt from a hard day’s work

But the poet in me

Says that it’s the dirt from inside me

The dirt of my sins

It reminds me of that scene from The Green Mile

The one where John Coffey coughs up flies

Releasing the evil inside of him

I think that the evil inside of me is lurking in this bath water

Because when I catch my reflection

I no longer hate what I see

Absolution through cleanliness. Cleanliness is said to be next to godliness! Nice flowing and descriptive ablution.
