As A Woman

As A Woman

A Poem by Laura Harrison

As a woman, I was born with the word ‘sorry’ spilling out of my mouth;

Sorry for not being everyone’s definition of perfect,

Sorry that no man finds me suitably f**k-able.

As a woman, I was made to be seen but not heard

I was told that men have every right to stare at me as if I am a deer and they are the hunter

But God forbid me if I call them out on their actions.

As a woman, I was taught that I am a weak and feeble creature;

An emotional wreck that will never have the power to rule like men do.

But as a human-being, I refuse to be used as a puppet;

I am not going to apologize for living my life the way I choose to

And my body is there for storing vital organs; and all the men that have ever looked at me like I'm a fresh piece of meat aren’t one of them.

As a human being, my empire is growing by the second.

I love the way that when you write, you put more than just words on the page. I like your feminist principles in this writing, and that you've put a message across with this poem.

Thank you so much, it means a lot to me :)
Not to be too much of a downer but if history is anything to go by, empires have a nasty tendency of falling...

A hurt and defiant rant at man. Not all women twill have experienced this but I am guessing many will. And experience tells me as many women's hunt as men and many use men as playthings. As a poem it is a decently constructed prose poem once again with feelings that are undeniable to the reader.
